Pictures in GALLERY

Pictures related to this website may be found by going to the homepage and clicking on the Gallery button. I have organized the pictures alphabetically by grouping them into meaningful categories, e.g. tombstones, villages, etc. The following categories of pictures exist at this point in time:

(1) Aeriel Maps-I have created aeriel maps of the Mt. Pleasant area by going to Google Maps at http://www.google.com/intl/en/earth/  and then superimposing descriptor (identifying)  terms on each of the maps.

(2) Charts/graphs-these help to  flesh out with data the population characteristics of Luxembourgers

(3) Documents- These are usually text files of one kind or the other.

(4) Family Pictures- Actual pictures of Luxembourgers or their descendants. My hope is that visitors to this site will scan and upload precious pictures of this group of people.

(5) Farms- I have  taken pictures of the farm land of the major founders at Mt. Pleasant. Please go to Documents to find the legal descriptions of these parcels.

(6) Gravestones- Here are some of the gravestones in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery of the original families of Luxembourgers who came to this area. As virtually all of Luxembourgers were Roman Catholics, most are found in this cemetery. The cemetery at Corpus Christi at Mooney Creek, also contains some Luxembourgers. Some others moved away to Olpe, Kansas and other settlements and are buried there.

(7) Maps- I have included the most important maps from Luxembourg and Atchison County, Kansas to illustrate where these folks came from and came to.

(8) Mt. Pleasant- I have included numerous photos I have taken of key parts of the physical location (cultural landscape) of Mt. Pleasant

(9) Obituaries- Eventually, I hope that we get a posted obituary of all Mt. Pleasant Luxembourgers and their descendants.

(10)  Places- I have placed a few photos of settlements surrounding Mt. Pleasant that were relivant to the history of this Luxembourger community, e.g. Potter, Monrovia, etc.

(11)  Records-I have included some of the original Luxembourgish records of births, baptisms, marriages, and deaths of these individuals in the old country.

(12) St. Patrick's Catholic Community- Herein you will find pictures that show the layout of the present St. Patrick's Church, cemetery, school, etc. The church is the oldest continuingly operated Catholic church in the State of Kansas

(13)  Villages in Luxembourg- You will find here pictures of the villages that sent emigrants to Atchison County, Kansas, with the families that lived in each of these villages labeled.
